A detailed work with special focus on salvation history and matters of social background and rhetoric. The salvation-historical viewpoint is similar to e.g. Chrysostom. Complements a general NPP viewpoint toward first century Judaism, but the emphasis is elsewhere, and it is certainly not necessary to be an NPP advocate in order to profit from Witherington's exegesis or background work.
